One of the best books I’ve ever read. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

I have been a long time fan of Nelson deMille - “The General’s Daughter”, “Charm School”, “The Gate House”, etc., until now. “The Deserter” must be the most boring book I have ever read. Too many long, long chapters, too many unnecessary descriptions to fill up the pages and just too many words! While I usually finish a book within two or three days, I have been struggling to get through this for over a week and finally gave up with about four more chapters left. I can’t remember ever giving up on a book before, but I just couldn’t make it to the end. It seems that an original great author has lost his edge when he takes on an associate writer and can no longer provide interesting characters and plots. Sorry to see this happen to Mr. deMille

Great story and a very enjoyable read, but the ending was abrupt and sudden...like The Sopranos fade to black ending That being said I’m looking forward to a sequel...

Very disappointing and boring. A complete reversal from the well written page turning experience that I’ve had with most Grisham novels.

I love and have collected all of Demille’s books and this one is as fantastic as each of his previous ones! I heartily recommend it! I am looking forward to another book from Nelson and his son😎

Poorly written, painfully shallow characters. Sophomoric, annoying and repetitive references to the main character’s horniness makes it sound as if a 14 year-old male helped write it. Too many coincidences that worked in favor of the two main characters and frankly, too many holes in the plot.

I liked the tone this one had compared to the last few. I think the inclusion of Alex DeMille breathed fresh life into an already great authors repertoire.

Nice effort. Somewhat abrupt and unsatisfying ending. The book might have been a hundred or so pages too long.
