I read this book in the 5th grade. I was hungering for science fiction and I was also determined to win the reading award that year. I won it. However, out of all of the books I read that year only two have stuck with me. This is one of them. I’ve often drifted back to thinking about this book and I’m now starting to delve into the sequels. This is a great read for anyone that’s into sci-fi spliced with some survival and mystery!

I'm assuming, and I know that's a no-no, this is the same lady who authored the ' Dragon Rider'. books some years ago and I hope I'm not "aging" Ms. McCaffrey. I was just getting back to reading when I started that first book and really enjoyed them. I also enjoyed this book. It had all the qualities I look for in a book and then some , was very readable and I had to force myself to take breaks when I needed to.

What a fascinating story! The possibilities are excellent for a doxology at the very least. These people were forced to be pioneers on a planet by being dropped there by slavers. They had to learn with No knowledge of the planets natural dangers or benefits. It gets better the more you read. Yes the 2 sequels I know of are also very good reads. I turkey enjoyed them.
